| KDF®
media are patented formulations of a Redox couple designed to remove
contamination from water. Redox is the science of electron transfer
from one substance to another. It is the same science in common batteries
that generates energy by means electron transfer from the cathode
to the anode.
The
KDF media provide high purity, high surface area that generates
a flood of electrons once in direct contact with water. The electron
zone creates instantaneous reactions that are expedited under warm
or hot conditions. Once the water passes through this zone, chlorine
and other oxidation agents are reduced into harmless chloride ions
by means of electron donation. Other substances are oxidized and
changed into solids that are filtered by the technology. Such contaminants
include, hydrogen sulfide, heavy metals and iron. Bacteria control
is another feature the technology delivers to keep endogenous microorganism
from proliferating within the filter and on surfaces of the splash
area.
KDF
media are certified by NSF International under Protocols 61 and
42. They are also classified by the US EPA as bacteria control devises.
